Mounting a TV on block or plaster walls
Why block and plaster walls in Jacksonville homes need different anchors and more care, and what that means for your TV mount.
A lot of Jacksonville homes aren't simple drywall. Exterior walls are often concrete block, and older homes in Riverside, Avondale, San Marco and Springfield have plaster over wood lath. Both can hold a TV securely, but they need the right approach.
Concrete block walls
Block walls are strong, but the hollow cores mean regular drywall anchors won't hold. TVs on block need masonry anchors set into solid parts of the block, drilled with the right bit so the block doesn't crack or blow out.
Plaster and lath walls
Plaster is hard and brittle. Drilling too fast or with the wrong bit can crack it around the mount. Studs in older homes also aren't always 16 inches apart, so finding them takes care.
Hiding wires on these walls
Cutting into block isn't practical, so a slim paintable cord cover is the clean option. In plaster, small openings for an in-wall kit are possible but take more care to patch.
What it costs
TV mounting is $100 flat on drywall. Brick, block or stone adds $40. We bring the right anchors for your wall, so you don't have to figure it out.
