How to hide TV wires safely
The safe ways to hide TV cords, including in-wall kits and paintable cord covers, and the common mistake that's against code.
A mounted TV looks best when you can't see the cords. There are two safe ways to do it, and one common mistake to avoid.
Option 1: an in-wall cord kit
A UL-listed in-wall kit runs the TV's power and HDMI through the wall between two neat plates, one behind the TV and one near the floor. Plug-in kits connect to the outlet you already have, so there are no changes to your home's wiring.
Option 2: a paintable cord cover
On block or brick walls, or when you'd rather not cut the wall, a slim cord cover runs from the TV to the floor. Painted to match the wall, it almost disappears.
The mistake to avoid
Never run a regular extension cord or the TV's power cord inside a wall. It isn't rated for that and can be a fire risk. HDMI and other low-voltage cables are fine in the wall.
What it costs
Homestallers mounts your TV and hides the wires for $150 flat, plus the kit at cost.
