Hanging holiday lights in Jacksonville

When to put up Christmas lights in Jacksonville, how to hang them so they survive Florida weather, and what professional hanging costs.

Holiday lights go up a little differently in Northeast Florida. There's no snow or ice to worry about, but there is wind, the occasional late-season storm and a lot of moisture, all of which are hard on clips, cords and connections.

When to hang them

Most Jacksonville neighborhoods start lighting up the weekend after Thanksgiving, and a lot of HOAs ask that lights come down by mid-January. Booking a time in early to mid November gets you the best choice of days, since the weekends right after Thanksgiving fill up fast.

Doing it right in Florida weather

  • Use outdoor-rated lights and cords only
  • Use gutter and shingle clips, not nails or staples, so you don't damage the roof or trim
  • Keep plug connections off the ground and out of puddles, or wrap them
  • Use an outdoor GFCI outlet and a timer or smart plug
  • Don't overload one outlet with long runs

Our price

Holiday light hanging is a flat $150 with two hours included, which covers the front roofline of most one-story homes and some bushes or a front tree. You supply the lights, or we can bring them at cost. Taller two-story rooflines can take more time, and we'll always ask before going over.

Taking them down

Book a handyman hour in January and we'll take everything down, coil the strands and leave them boxed and labeled for next year.
